IAEC - NRC Cooperation

On April 7, 2005 the Israel Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC) and the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) signed the renewed Arrangement for the Exchange of Technical Information and Cooperation in Nuclear Safety and Research Matters. The signature ceremony took place at the US NRC headquarters.

The Israeli delegation was headed by the IAEC Director General, Gideon Frank. During the visit the delegation met with the US NRC Chairman Nils Diaz and with Commissioner Peter Lyons, Commissioner Gregory Jaczko and Commissioner Jeffrey Merrifield. In addition the sides held professional discussions on the directions of their future cooperation.

The Arrangement between the IAEC and the US NRC was first signed in 1978, and has been periodically renewed since then. The renewal of this Arrangement provides a basis for continuing the cooperation on generic criteria of nuclear safety standards and regulatory policies related to research reactors.
