The IAEC encourages and promotes research and development in the field of nuclear energy. IAEC scientists participate in governmental and academic research programs.

IAEC research in cooperation with the Ministry of National Infrastructure.

IAEC researchers participate in research in the field of nuclear energy, funded by the Ministry of National Infrastructure.

Since the 70's the Government of Israel decided that an option to produce electricity using nuclear reactors should be prepared and maintained. This option requires promoting nuclear knowledge and research, preparing sites suitable for building nuclear power plants and continuously examining the economical benefit of operating such plants.

Infrastructure research funded by the Ministry of National Infrastructure (and before that by the Ministry of Energy) have long been conducted at the IAEC, universities and other public institutions in the field of energy.

The nuclear infrastructure research focuses on:

Economical evaluations of sites for nuclear power plants
Site surveys and licensing
Advanced reactors and future means of producing energy
Aspects of nuclear fuel
Nuclear safety
