|
 |
Representatives of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) visited Israel on April 27, 2006 and held discussions on issues of nuclear export controls, a continuation to a previous meeting that took place on March 15, 2005.
The NSG delegation was headed by the chairman of the NSG, Ambassador Roald Naess (Norway).
The NSG representatives met with the Foreign Minister, MK Tzipi Livni. They also held discussions with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministery of Trade, Industry and Labor as well as the Israel Atomic Energy Commission.
In the course of the discussions, Israeli officials presented Israel's policy and activities related to nuclear non-proliferation and export controls; and NSG representatives briefed on NSG decisions, current activities and discussions. Some ideas on ways to enhance the ongoing dialogue between Israel and the NSG were discussed.
In the meeting with the FM, Minister Livni told the delegation that Israel shares the objectives and priorities of the NSG and is a reliable partner in confronting nuclear proliferation. Minister Livni expressed the hope that the dialogue will soon be translated into a stronger partnership that facilitates these common efforts.
